From study by Royal Haskoning DHV (PDF, 3.6 MB)<\/a> It appears that there is enough heat to enable nearly 50,000 buildings in Apeldoorn to be heated sustainably in the future via interconnected heating networks: a so-called \u2018heat roundabout\u2019.<\/p>\n

By setting aside funds now, the council aims to keep all options open for the further expansion of district heating networks in Apeldoorn. This will ensure that sustainable heating for large parts of the city remains within reach in the future. Furthermore, the council is preventing higher costs from arising later on.<\/p>\n

With this development, the council also aims to provide residents with greater clarity about the future, so that they can take this into account in their own sustainability plans. Feasibility and affordability are paramount here and go without saying.<\/p>\n

District heating networks in the city of Apeldoorn can be interconnected to form a \u2018heat roundabout\u2019. For a number of neighbourhoods in the city, the villages and the surrounding countryside, small-scale heating networks and individual heat pumps will form the basis for heating homes.<\/p>\n

District heating networks use little electricity. They have the added advantage of improving the reliability of the electricity grid in Apeldoorn. A district heating network uses less electricity than if everyone were to install their own heat pump. It therefore helps to alleviate grid congestion, which is good news for residents of Apeldoorn, for local authorities in the Stedendriehoek region and for the province of Gelderland.<\/p>\n

A large proportion of the neighbourhoods in the city of Apeldoorn are eligible for a district heating network that relies heavily on heat from the wastewater treatment plant. District heating networks are particularly suitable for neighbourhoods in the city of Apeldoorn. These neighbourhoods are being phased out of natural gas one by one. The council will reassess when and in what order this will take place. For each neighbourhood, a detailed assessment is still required to determine whether a district heating network is the best solution.<\/p>\n
