These metal bins are intended for disposing of autumn leaves from streets and gardens. The leaf bins are emptied once or twice a week. It is <strong>not<\/strong> You are permitted to dispose of garden waste in this bin. You can put it in the green bin or take it to the Recycling Centre (Aruba 16, Apeldoorn).<\/p>\n<p>The leaf bins will be put out in week 43, from 19 October. They will be collected again in week 51. We do this because leaves, combined with rain, can cause slippery conditions. Leaves can also block drains.<br \/>Teams with leaf blowers and sweepers are out and about clearing up fallen leaves. Every corner of the municipality will be covered. Each week, we focus on a different neighbourhood in Apeldoorn. We do not clear leaves that have fallen outside the designated routes. If leaves cause a hazardous situation, <a href=\"https:\/\/meldingen.apeldoorn.nl\/incident\/beschrijf\" data-mce-href=\"https:\/\/meldingen.apeldoorn.nl\/incident\/beschrijf\">please report this<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The schedule for neighbourhoods and villages will be published in early November and will be updated weekly.<\/p>\n<h2>In some places, we leave the leaves where they are<\/h2>\n<p>In some places, where it poses no danger, we\u2019ll leave the leaves where they are. This year, we\u2019ll be doing this in more places than you\u2019re used to. You\u2019ll soon see more leaves lying around, particularly in flowerbeds and green spaces. We\u2019re doing this to provide insects and small animals with a place to hibernate. Furthermore, the leaves are important for healthy soil. Leaves form a vital insulating layer that plants need to survive a harsh winter. Healthy soil is also more resistant to drought and heavy rainfall.<\/p>\n<h2>What do you do with your leaves?<\/h2>\n<p>You can help by sweeping the pavement and driveway. If you sweep the leaves onto the kerb, we\u2019ll collect them when we come round. Whilst the leaf bins are in place, between weeks 43 and 51, you can put the leaves in the leaf bins.\u00a0 In your own garden, it is best to leave the leaves where they are as much as possible. Small animals and insects hibernate under the leaf litter, and it also protects your plants from frost. Another advantage is that soil organisms automatically break down the leaves into nutrients for the soil, meaning less compost is needed.<br \/>Would you rather not have leaves in your garden? You can also put your leaf waste in the green bin. This is emptied free of charge.<\/p>\n<h2>Bokashi Soil Conditioner<\/h2>\n<p>Some of the leaves that we do clear away because they\u2019re lying on roads and paths are put to good use. We use them here to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.apeldoorn.nl\/water-en-natuur\/groenbeheer\/bokashi\/\" data-mce-href=\"https:\/\/www.apeldoorn.nl\/water-en-natuur\/groenbeheer\/bokashi\/\">Bokashi<\/a> a soil improver. Bokashi is a type of compost made from fermented leaf litter. Just like leaves, it provides nourishment for the soil life around trees, shrubs and in public gardens.
