Every year, at least 6 hectares of public space are disconnected from the sewerage system. This includes roads, squares, car parks and the roofs of schools and public buildings. Disconnection is particularly carried out during major maintenance work on roads and the sewerage system. In new neighbourhoods, such as Zuidbroek and Zonnehoeve, rainwater no longer flows into the sewer system.<\/p>\n\r\n\t\t\t<\/div>\r\n\t\t<\/div>\r\n\t<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\n\n<div data-acfblock=\"Tekst-Afbeelding\" class=\"section a section--grey e-tekst-afbeelding\">\r\n\t<div class=\"container\">\r\n\t\t<div class=\"row justify-content-center elementOnTop\">\r\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"editor\">\r\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2>Blue Drop for Awareness<\/h2>\r\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\r\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"tekstblok_kolom1 col-12 col-md-8 editor\">\r\n<p>To show where rainwater is diverted away from the sewer system, Apeldoorn Council, in collaboration with the RIONED Foundation and the TBS-SVA Group, is introducing the \u2018Blue Drop\u2019. This is a symbol on manhole covers and drains that indicates where rainwater no longer flows into the sewer system, but back into nature.<\/p>\n<p>The first manhole covers and gully grates featuring blue drops have recently been installed as part of works on De Bovenkruier (Apeldoorn North). Future sewerage projects involving the separation of rainwater will feature blue drops.<\/p>\n\r\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\r\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"tekstblok_kolom_afbeelding col-12 col-md-4\">\r\n\t\t\t\t\t<div>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"tekstblok__image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.apeldoorn.nl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/deksels-met-blauwe-druppel-400x360.jpg\" alt=\"deksels met blauwe druppel\"\/>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\r\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\r\n\t\t<\/div>\r\n\t<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\n\n<div data-acfblock=\"Tekst\" class=\"section a section--grey e-tekst\">\r\n\t<div class=\"container\">\r\n\t\t<div class=\"row justify-content-center elementOnTop\">\r\n\t\t\t<div class=\"col article-content__content-custom-1220 editor elementOnTop\">\r\n<h2>Rainwater back to nature<\/h2>\n<p>Diverting rainwater has several advantages:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Reduced risk of flooding<\/strong><br \/>\nThe sewage system is less likely to become overloaded during heavy rain.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Improved groundwater recharge<\/strong><br \/>\nRainwater seeps into the ground and helps prevent plants and trees from drying out.<\/li>\n<li><strong data-start=\"89\" data-end=\"123\">Less strain on the sewer system<\/strong><br data-start=\"123\" data-end=\"126\" \/>Clean rainwater flows back into the natural environment and does not need to be treated.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\r\n\t\t\t<\/div>\r\n\t\t<\/div>\r\n\t<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\n\n<div data-acfblock=\"Lijstblok-type-1\" class=\"section section--grey\">\r\n  <div class=\"container\">\r\n    <div class=\"row justify-content-center\">\r\n      <div class=\"col-12 col-lg-11 elementOnTop\">\r\n        <div class=\"editor__content-block editor__white-content-block\">\r\n<div class=\"editor\">\r\n<h2>Have you disconnected your rainwater system?
