At the Loenen National Cemetery of Honour, there are also vases symbolising the cemeteries of honour in Thailand and Myanmar. During the wreath-laying ceremony, the Melati wreath is laid. The melati, or Indian jasmine flower, symbolises the end of the Second World War.<\/p>\n\r\n\t\t\t<\/div>\r\n\t\t<\/div>\r\n\t<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\n\n<div data-acfblock=\"Lijstblok-type-1\" class=\"section section--grey\">\r\n  <div class=\"container\">\r\n    <div class=\"row justify-content-center\">\r\n      <div class=\"col-12 col-lg-11 elementOnTop\">\r\n        <div class=\"editor__content-block editor__white-content-block\">\r\n<div class=\"editor\">\r\n<h2>Programme<\/h2>\r\n<ul>\n<li>Doors open and a welcome from 10.30 am, with coffee or tea and spekkoek at the Memorial and Education Centre<\/li>\n<li>Commemoration from 11.30 am to 12.30 pm at the De Zeven Kruizen monument<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Location<\/h3>\n<p>Loenen National Field of Honour<br \/>\n64 Groenendaalseweg<br \/>\n7371 EZ Loenen<\/p>\n<p>Visitors are very welcome to bring a sunflower of their own to place by the crosses.<\/p>\n<p>The commemoration is open to the public. The then Dutch East Indies were occupied by Japan from 1942 to 1945. On 15 August 1945, shortly after the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan surrendered. This officially brought an end to the Second World War in the Kingdom of the Netherlands.<\/p>\n<p>Millions of people in South-East Asia have suffered greatly as a result of hunger, forced labour, violence, humiliation and terror.<\/p>\n<p>Although the war did come to an end on 15 August, it did not bring peace. On 17 August, two days after Japan\u2019s surrender, the leaders of the Indonesian nationalist movement \u2013 Sukarno, Sjahrir and Hatta \u2013 proclaimed Indonesian independence. They are recognised in Indonesia as the founders of the independent Republic of Indonesia. In the power vacuum immediately following the war, there was widespread violence against both Dutch and Indonesians. The subsequent large-scale violence of the war and, later, the frosty reception given to Dutch and Indo-Dutch people in the Netherlands continue to have an impact for generations, right up to the
