For many people, the period after the summer holidays feels like a fresh start. Schools are reopening, clubs are resuming their activities, and at work, diaries are slowly filling up again. Life is returning to its normal rhythm. For many, this means \u2013 both literally and figuratively \u2013 crossing another threshold.<\/p>\n

For some, this is perfectly normal. For others, that step feels a great deal bigger. A child starting secondary school for the first time. A student embarking on a new course of study. Someone starting a new job. Or a new resident finding their feet in our local authority.<\/p>\n

But there are barriers closer to home, too. Attending a neighbourhood meeting for the first time. Joining a club. Taking on voluntary work. Or simply ringing the doorbell of a neighbour you haven\u2019t met yet.<\/p>\n

As mayor, I see how often wonderful things begin with that very first step. Behind every threshold lies the chance for an encounter, a new idea or a helping hand. It is precisely for this reason that our town and villages remain places where people look out for one another and where there is scope for initiative.<\/p>\n

Perhaps you discovered some new places this summer or took a break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Now that life is getting back to normal, I\u2019d like to invite you to discover something new close to home. Sometimes it doesn\u2019t have to be anything more than striking up a conversation, popping into a shop or welcoming someone.<\/p>\n

I wish everyone a wonderful start to this new season. And above all, I hope you\u2019ll find the curiosity \u2013 and perhaps a little courage \u2013 to step over a threshold every now and then. Because behind every threshold, there may lie a wonderful encounter, a new beginning or an unexpected connection.<\/p>\n\r\n\t\t\t<\/div>\r\n\t\t<\/div>\r\n\t<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\n\n\t\t\t\t
