You can apply for this at the <a class=\"external externe-link\" href=\"https:\/\/justis.nl\/producten\/naamswijziging\">Justis website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>Request<\/h3>\n<p>To submit your application, you will need the \u2018Name Change\u2019 leaflet and the corresponding application form. You can download these from the <a class=\"external externe-link\" href=\"https:\/\/justis.nl\/producten\/naamswijziging\">Justis website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>You must enclose a copy of the birth certificate of the person (or persons) for whom you are applying for the name change. Other documents may also be required. This is explained in the leaflet.<\/p>\n<h3>How long does it take?<\/h3>\n<p>The whole process takes about 6 months (provided there are no objections).<\/p>\n<h3>Cost<\/h3>\n<p>You can find the costs on the <a class=\"external externe-link\" href=\"https:\/\/justis.nl\/producten\/naamswijziging\/aanvraagprocedure-naamswijziging#kosten\">Justis website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>Renewing your passport, ID card and driving licence<\/h3>\n<p>You will need a new identity document if your first name or surname has changed. To do this, please make an appointment at the counter in the town hall; please see our <a class=\"intern\" href=\"\/regelen-en-weten\/reisdocumenten-rijbewijs-en-identiteit\/\">travel documents page<\/a>.\u00a0 You can apply for this as soon as your name change has been processed in the Personal Records Database (BRP). Once your name has been changed, your old identity documents will no longer be valid, as they still bear your old name. You must therefore hand these identity documents in to the local authority.<\/p>\n<h3>Are you not a Dutch national?<\/h3>\n<p>If you are a national of a country other than the Netherlands, you must submit your application in the country of which you are a national. You can then have the name change registered in the Netherlands. To do this, make an appointment at the reception desk in the town hall for <a href=\"\/regelen-en-weten\/uittreksels-akten-en-verklaringen\/afschrift-akte-burgerlijke-stand\/akte-inleveren-en-laten-registreren\">submit the deed and have it registered<\/a>.<\/p>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t  <\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"accordion-item\">\n\t\t  <h2 class=\"accordion-header\" id=\"heading-u1-i2\">\n\t\t\t<button class=\"accordion-button collapsed\" type=\"button\" data-bs-toggle=\"collapse\" data-bs-target=\"#collapse-u1-i2\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"collapse-u1-i2\">\n\t\t\t  <span class=\"accordion-toggle\"><\/span>Change first name\t\t\t<\/button>\n\t\t  <\/h2>\n\t\t  <div id=\"collapse-u1-i2\" class=\"accordion-collapse collapse\" aria-labelledby=\"heading-u1-i2\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"accordion-body\">\n\t\t\t  <p>To change your first name in the Netherlands, you must be a Dutch national. You cannot apply for the change yourself; you must instruct a solicitor. A solicitor will submit an application on your behalf to the court. The court will then issue a ruling on the matter.<\/p>\n<h3>Cost<\/h3>\n<p>You will have to pay the lawyer\u2019s fees yourself. You will also have to pay court fees: a contribution towards the costs of the judicial system.<\/p>\n<h3>No lawyer is required for a gender reassignment<\/h3>\n<p>In the event of a <a href=\"\/regelen-en-weten\/reisdocumenten-rijbewijs-en-identiteit\/identiteit-en-nationaliteit\/geslachtswijziging-aanvragen\/\">application for a change of gender<\/a> You can choose for yourself which first name or names you would like to have following your gender reassignment.
