It is designed for primary school children. It will feature natural play elements that blend in with the park-like surroundings. A low fence will be erected around the play area to prevent dogs from entering.<\/p>\n<p>The construction of the playground will be carried out alongside other works in the Verzetsstrijderspark and the Wilhelminapark:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>New footpath: from Verzetsstrijderspark, a path runs past the playground towards the dog park<\/li>\n<li>New crossing over the stream: the existing crossing will be removed and replaced with a new crossing (culvert)<\/li>\n<li>Path through the copse disappears: the copse was already partially closed off; the new crossing means this path will disappear completely.<\/li>\n<li>Replacement of bank revetments: The Vallei en Veluwe Water Board is replacing the wooden bank revetments in the Verzetsstrijderspark and Wilhelminapark. Temporary road plates and a small storage area will be installed for this purpose.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Work will begin in mid-October 2025 and will be completed by early 2026 at the latest.<\/p>\n<h2>A look back: how did we choose this venue?<\/h2>\n<p>We looked at several locations and eventually chose a spot in the Verzetsstrijderspark. In September 2024, we organised a meeting to discuss the plan and the choice of location. Many residents responded positively, but there were also concerns about public safety, nature conservation, dying trees, the nearby dog park and potential nuisance. On 18 February 2025, a drop-in session took place at which we presented the preliminary design. Residents told us that a balancing beam wasn\u2019t challenging enough, so it has been replaced with a different piece of play equipment. The play area is situated a little further away from the water, and between the fencing and the water there will be space for a grassy path intended for walkers wishing to reach the dog exercise area. No play equipment will therefore be installed in the water. However, there will be a fun bridge for children across the water, next to the culvert on the north side.<\/p>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t  <\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"accordion-item\">\n\t\t  <h2 class=\"accordion-header\" id=\"heading-u1-i2\">\n\t\t\t<button class=\"accordion-button collapsed\" type=\"button\" data-bs-toggle=\"collapse\" data-bs-target=\"#collapse-u1-i2\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"collapse-u1-i2\">\n\t\t\t  <span class=\"accordion-toggle\"><\/span>Management of small copses \/ falling branches\t\t\t<\/button>\n\t\t  <\/h2>\n\t\t  <div id=\"collapse-u1-i2\" class=\"accordion-collapse collapse\" aria-labelledby=\"heading-u1-i2\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"accordion-body\">\n\t\t\t  <p>One concern that has been raised is how to prevent branches \u2013 or even an entire tree \u2013 from falling onto the playground. This is because the council had previously decided to allow the trees in the copse next to the playground site to die off naturally, given the ecological benefits this brings to the natural environment.<\/p>\n<p>The council has decided to review this decision, as we consider the importance of this playground to outweigh other considerations. This means that the council will, in fact, resume managing the copse in the same way that we manage trees in other parks. In practical terms, this means that the council will carry out regular inspections of the trees and will prune or fell branches or trees where there is a risk that they could break off or fall onto the playground.<\/p>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t  <\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"accordion-item\">\n\t\t  <h2 class=\"accordion-header\" id=\"heading-u1-i3\">\n\t\t\t<button class=\"accordion-button collapsed\" type=\"button\" data-bs-toggle=\"collapse\" data-bs-target=\"#collapse-u1-i3\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"collapse-u1-i3\">\n\t\t\t  <span class=\"accordion-toggle\"><\/span>Why not somewhere else in the park?\t\t\t<\/button>\n\t\t  <\/h2>\n\t\t  <div id=\"collapse-u1-i3\" class=\"accordion-collapse collapse\" aria-labelledby=\"heading-u1-i3\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"accordion-body\">\n\t\t\t  <p>One question that has been asked several times is why another location in the park was not chosen. These options were carefully considered. However, we must bear in mind that the Resistance Fighters\u2019 Park is a listed monument. A location situated further out in the park\u2019s open field met with objections from the Cultural Heritage Agency of the Netherlands and the Monuments Committee (also known as the Mandate Committee). The latter committee, acting on behalf of the local authority, assesses plans that have an impact on buildings or sites with heritage status.<\/p>\n<p>The objections raised by these two parties relate in particular to the fact that a playground in the open field would detract too much from the character of the park and the views within it. For this reason, the council is sticking to the location in the corner, next to the copse.<\/p>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t  <\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"accordion-item\">\n\t\t  <h2 class=\"accordion-header\" id=\"heading-u1-i4\">\n\t\t\t<button class=\"accordion-button collapsed\" type=\"button\" data-bs-toggle=\"collapse\" data-bs-target=\"#collapse-u1-i4\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"collapse-u1-i4\">\n\t\t\t  <span class=\"accordion-toggle\"><\/span>Separation between the children\u2019s play area and the dog play area\t\t\t<\/button>\n\t\t  <\/h2>\n\t\t  <div id=\"collapse-u1-i4\" class=\"accordion-collapse collapse\" aria-labelledby=\"heading-u1-i4\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"accordion-body\">\n\t\t\t  <p>We will clearly separate the two areas to prevent dogs from entering the play area. We will do this, first and foremost, by installing a simple fence around the play area. This will be situated within a strip of wild vegetation, so that the fence blends in well with the surroundings. There will be two paths: a semi-paved path for visitors to the play area inside the fence, and a grass path outside the fence for walkers (with or without dogs) on their way to the playing field. This new connection will help increase the number of passers-by and, consequently, social supervision in this corner of the park. \u00a0<\/p>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t  <\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"accordion-item\">\n\t\t  <h2 class=\"accordion-header\" id=\"heading-u1-i5\">\n\t\t\t<button class=\"accordion-button collapsed\" type=\"button\" data-bs-toggle=\"collapse\" data-bs-target=\"#collapse-u1-i5\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"collapse-u1-i5\">\n\t\t\t  <span class=\"accordion-toggle\"><\/span>Playground accessibility\t\t\t<\/button>\n\t\t  <\/h2>\n\t\t  <div id=\"collapse-u1-i5\" class=\"accordion-collapse collapse\" aria-labelledby=\"heading-u1-i5\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"accordion-body\">\n\t\t\t  <p>To ensure the playground is easily accessible to everyone, we are laying a semi-paved path leading to it.
