The main reasons are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Better protection for cyclists is essential.<\/li>\n<li>Traffic speeds need to be reduced.<\/li>\n<li>The tarmac is badly worn.<\/li>\n<li>The sewer needs to be replaced or renovated.<\/li>\n<li>An additional stormwater drain is required.<\/li>\n<li>A good connection between the swimming pool and the car park is desirable.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>A look back at the 2025 open day<\/h2>\n<p>The preliminary design was presented during the first public consultation evening in 2025. Visitors were able to give their feedback and highlight key points for consideration. In addition, the project management team provided an update on the current state of play and looked ahead to the next phase: the appointment of the construction team.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.apeldoorn.nl\/nieuwbouw-en-ontwikkeling\/noordwest-apeldoorn\/herinrichting-vlijtseweg\/maatregelen-op-ingekomen-reacties-inloopavond\">View the frequently asked questions and the comments<\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Developments on Vlijtseweg<\/h2>\n<p>Various development projects are underway along Vlijtseweg. A new swimming pool and a multi-storey car park are to be built, whilst housing development plans are also taking shape. At the same time, traffic volumes are increasing. These developments are being considered holistically within the area vision, with the aim of relieving congestion on Vlijtseweg and improving accessibility.<\/p>\n<h2>A phased approach<\/h2>\n<h3>Phase 1<\/h3>\n<p>Safety and essential maintenance In this phase, the most urgent issues will be addressed, such as the sewer system and the worn-out tarmac. Cycling safety will also be improved and speed limits reduced.<\/p>\n<h3>Phase 2<\/h3>\n<p>Further traffic adjustments (future) In the second phase, the focus will be on optimising traffic flows and implementing additional measures to make the Vlijtseweg a low-traffic, future-proof road. Any additional measures will be implemented following a monitoring exercise.<\/p>\n<h3>Status \u2013 Where are we now?<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Preliminary Design (VO) completed<\/li>\n<li>Tendering within the construction team<\/li>\n<li>The Preliminary Design (PD) will be further developed into the Final Design (FD)<\/li>\n<li>The DO is being developed into the Implementation Design (UO)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Project planning<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Mid-May 2026 \u2013 Contractor announced<\/li>\n<li>2026 \u2013 Detailed design of the sewerage system and bridges<\/li>\n<li>January 2027 \u2013 Start of implementation<\/li>\n<li>September 2027 \u2013 Swimming pool open<\/li>\n<li>Mid-2028 \u2013 Other work completed<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Please note!
