It also has three municipally protected town and village landscapes: the Indische Buurt, the Metaalbuurt and Wiesel. The Kerschoten post-war reconstruction area is now being added to this list, along with a number of residential neighbourhoods dating from the period 1970\u20131990 (Post 70).<\/p>\n<h2>What makes Kerschoten special<\/h2>\n<p>The municipality of Apeldoorn has three nationally protected townscapes: De Parken, Hoog Soeren and Radio Kootwijk. It also has three municipally protected town and village landscapes: the Indische Buurt, the Metaalbuurt and Wiesel. The Kerschoten post-war reconstruction area is now being added to this list, along with a number of residential neighbourhoods dating from the period 1970\u20131990 (Post 70).<\/p>\n<p>Kerschoten is one of the neighbourhoods in Apeldoorn that was planned on the drawing board in the 1950s. The ambitious project involved the construction of nearly 900 homes in both low-rise and high-rise buildings, a local shopping centre, schools and churches, and many more facilities, combined with extensive green spaces. The idea was not to live around, but within, a large public park.<\/p>\n<p>In 2011, Kerschoten was selected by the Cultural Heritage Agency of the Netherlands (RCE) as one of the thirty significant post-war reconstruction areas in the Netherlands. As these areas collectively provide a good picture of how people in the Netherlands thought, built and organised their lives in the period following the Second World War, they are regarded as prime examples of the post-war reconstruction period. The council has now designated the Kerschoten post-war reconstruction area as a municipally protected townscape, ensuring that its distinctive features and qualities remain recognisable for future generations. The boundaries follow the town planning scheme drawn up by architect D. Zuiderhoek, including the former care home De Veenkamp. It also links a number of key facilities in the neighbourhood. This has created a green east-west axis. The park is a listed monument.\r\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/figcaption>\r\n\t\t\t\t<\/figure>\r\n\t\t\t<\/div>\r\n\t\t<\/div>\r\n\t<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\n\n<div data-acfblock=\"Tekst\" class=\"section a section--blue e-tekst\">\r\n\t<div class=\"container\">\r\n\t\t<div class=\"row justify-content-center elementOnTop\">\r\n\t\t\t<div class=\"col article-content__content-custom-1220 editor elementOnTop\">\r\n\t\t\t\t<h2>Landmark buildings<\/h2>\r\n<p>Within the municipally protected townscape of the Kerschoten Reconstruction Area, three groups of buildings were designated as landmark properties in May 2024. We chose these buildings because they are situated in the heart of the neighbourhood. We believe it is important to preserve their original appearance as much as possible in this location. The Municipal Executive has taken the decision to designate the building groups in Kerschoten as landmark buildings. This designation will enable the external features of the buildings to be better protected.<\/p>\n<h2>Environmental Plan<\/h2>\n<p>Over the coming years, we as a local authority will be working on the environmental plan, including for the Kerschoten redevelopment area. For the redevelopment area, the environmental plan will set out how we will deal with matters such as building regulations, green spaces, historic paths and garden walls. Anything that is generally exempt from planning permission will remain so.
