We have three main objectives for the period up to 2030:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Lower energy consumption<\/li>\n<li>More renewable energy<\/li>\n<li>Anyone can take part<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Our main goal is for all of Apeldoorn\u2019s energy to be generated locally by 2050. That is why we are going to save as much energy as possible and generate renewable energy. We are also going to heat buildings in a different way, without natural gas. Swimming pools use a lot of energy to heat the water and the pools themselves. By making Malkander gas-free, we\u2019ll cut CO\u2082 emissions significantly and demonstrate that even older buildings can become sustainable.<\/p>\n<h3>Significant energy savings<\/h3>\n<p>The swimming pool currently uses a lot of energy. Thanks to the refurbishment, we are saving around 250,000 m\u00b3 of natural gas per year. This is also good news for the environment. We are preventing 447,000 kg of CO\u2082 emissions per year. That is roughly equivalent to 200 cars not being driven for a whole year.<\/p>\n<h3>Planning and disruption<\/h3>\n<p>The swimming pool will remain largely open during the renovation. We will also be making use of the maintenance weeks that were already scheduled, during which the swimming pool will be closed, namely from 4 to 17 August (weeks 32 and 33). There will also be disruption on one day in November. On that day, we will be switching to a new energy supply. The exact date will be announced later.<\/p>\n<h3>Unique: Solar carports in the car park<\/h3>\n<p>To generate solar energy, Malkander is being fitted with innovative solar carports. These are canopies over car parks fitted with solar panels. This is the first time these solar carports have been installed on public land in Apeldoorn.<\/p>\n\r\n\t\t\t<\/div>\r\n\t\t<\/div>\r\n\t<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\n\n<div data-acfblock=\"Lijstblok-type-1\" class=\"section section--blue\">\r\n  <div class=\"container\">\r\n    <div class=\"row justify-content-center\">\r\n      <div class=\"col-12 col-lg-11 elementOnTop\">\r\n        <div class=\"editor__content-block editor__lime-content-block\">\r\n<div class=\"editor\">\r\n<h2>What are solar carports?<\/h2>\r\n<ul>\n<li><strong>180 metres long<\/strong>: A long canopy fitted with solar panels<\/li>\n<li><strong>East-West oriented<\/strong>: That\u2019s how they capture sunlight all day long<\/li>\n<li><strong>In the verge<\/strong>: They will be planted in the existing green area next to the swimming pool<\/li>\n<li><strong>744 solar panels<\/strong>: Together, these generate a lot of renewable electricity<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\r\n<\/div>\r\n        <\/div>\r\n      <\/div>\r\n    <\/div>\r\n  <\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\n\n<div data-acfblock=\"Tekst\" class=\"section a section--blue e-tekst\">\r\n\t<div class=\"container\">\r\n\t\t<div class=\"row justify-content-center elementOnTop\">\r\n\t\t\t<div class=\"col article-content__content-custom-1220 editor elementOnTop\">\r\n\r\n\t\t\t<\/div>\r\n\t\t<\/div>\r\n\t<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\n\n<div data-acfblock=\"Tekst\" class=\"section a section--blue e-tekst\">\r\n\t<div class=\"container\">\r\n\t\t<div class=\"row justify-content-center elementOnTop\">\r\n\t\t\t<div class=\"col article-content__content-custom-1220 editor elementOnTop\">\r\n\t\t\t\t<h2>What\u2019s going to change?<\/h2>\r\n<h3>Gas-free heating<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>New heat pumps<\/strong>: The old gas boilers are being phased out. Modern heat pumps provide heating for all the pools and rooms.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Heat pump water heater<\/strong>: We no longer use gas for hot tap water either.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Heat recovery<\/strong>: A smart system captures heat from the air that is vented outside and reuses it.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Better ventilation<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Smart control system<\/strong>: The fans will be fitted with speed control. This means they will only use energy when necessary.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Full LED lighting<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Last fluorescent tubes gone<\/strong>: Most of the lights are already LED. The last fluorescent tubes have now been replaced.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Lower electricity consumption<\/strong>: LED lighting uses far less electricity than old light bulbs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Better insulation<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>New windows<\/strong>: It has been replaced with HR++ glass. This retains heat much more effectively.<\/li>\n<li><strong>A good foundation<\/strong>: The roof was insulated and fitted with solar panels in 2017.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\r\n\t\t\t<\/div>\r\n\t\t<\/div>\r\n\t<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\n\n<div data-acfblock=\"Tekst\" class=\"section a section--blue e-tekst\">\r\n\t<div class=\"container\">\r\n\t\t<div class=\"row justify-content-center elementOnTop\">\r\n\t\t\t<div class=\"col article-content__content-custom-1220 editor elementOnTop\">\r\n\t\t\t\t<h2>Why is this special?<\/h2>\r\n<h3>Existing swimming pool, new opportunities<\/h3>\n<p>With this renovation of the swimming pool, which dates from 1998, we are demonstrating that existing buildings too can have a sustainable future. The 3,345-square-metre swimming pool now has an energy rating of A and will soon be even more sustainable.<\/p>\n<p>With this renovation, the council is demonstrating that we, too, are working hard to promote sustainability. We are setting a good example and inspiring residents and businesses to take action as well. The swimming pool already has a solid foundation.
