The council also provided an update on the development of the Safety Centre. There was an opportunity to ask questions either in the plenary session or during the follow-up discussion at the themed tables.<\/p>\n<h2>Attendees<\/h2>\n<p>Around 35 people attended the residents\u2019 evening. Residents and business owners from (parts of) the Kanaal Zuid, Kayersdijk, De Savornin Lohmanstraat, Matendreef and Matenpoort areas were invited to the event. Members of the municipal council also received invitations. Staff from Apeldoorn City Council and Movares were present to answer questions.<\/p>\n<h2>Explanation from the local authority<\/h2>\n<p>After the doors opened, Councillor Nick Derks gave a welcome address and an introduction. The councillor gave a brief overview of the process so far, the actions taken following the previous information evening and the next steps. He also mentioned the discussions with ProRail, which have now made an additional level crossing possible and led to the proposal of an alternative preferred route.<\/p>\n<p>Project leader Marcel Tulk then took over. He provided an update on the development of the Safety Centre and briefed those present on the new preferred route for first-priority call-outs.<\/p>\n<h2>Questions<\/h2>\n<p>The questions raised concerned the arrangements made by the council regarding the steam train and the traffic situation on Mezenweg. It is already a regular occurrence that lorries from the businesses on the corner of Kayersdijk and Mezenweg obstruct the thoroughfare. The council has recognised this problem. Consequently, the road is being redesigned to create more space and ensure a safe environment for cyclists and fire engines, amongst others. Discussions have taken place with the businesses regarding loading and unloading and how this can be improved.<\/p>\n<p>The connection between the fire station and the Matenpoort was also a topic of discussion. This focused in particular on the exit from the fire station, with the cycle path in front of it, the bend at the Matenpoort and the existing bus lane. The fire station\u2019s exit will be redesigned to include, amongst other things, a warning light or traffic light. The details of this still need to be worked out. The bus lane and the cycle path will remain in place.<\/p>\n<h2>Further planning<\/h2>\n<p>The study will be placed on the municipal council\u2019s agenda for consultation during the Political Forum. The Mayor and Aldermen will then take a final decision.
