Many people have lived here for a long time and are attached to their neighbourhood. They give it a 7.5 for quality of life. Most residents feel reasonably to fairly healthy. Their sense of happiness is rated at 7.8.<\/p>\n<h2>Activities and facilities<\/h2>\n<p>De Donken doesn\u2019t have its own shopping centre, but fortunately the shops at De Eglantier aren\u2019t far away. People enjoy shopping there. There\u2019s also a good range of schools nearby. And there\u2019s a local community centre, the DonkHuus, where all sorts of activities are organised. The station, which is right next to the neighbourhood, is also very convenient.<\/p>\n<h2>Areas of concern<\/h2>\n<p>At the same time, there are areas of concern. For example, incomes in De Donken are lower than the average for Apeldoorn. This can make people more vulnerable to setbacks. And one in three residents feels more or less lonely. Community ties could therefore be improved. Furthermore, there are few facilities for young people.<\/p>\n<h2>Refurbishment<\/h2>\n<p>Finally: De Donken is almost fifty years old. The neighbourhood could do with a bit of a revamp. We\u2019ve already got started on that. As we set about improving the neighbourhood, we\u2019ll immediately look at whether we can tackle other issues. For example, can we make it easier for you to meet up with one another outdoors? Can we make the neighbourhood more sustainable, greener and safer? Together with the local community, we\u2019ll assess what\u2019s needed. The following pages set out what we\u2019ll be working on.<\/p>\n<h2>Agenda<\/h2>\n<p>Over the coming period*, six areas will receive particular attention. First and foremost, the neighbourhood\u2019s identity: how can we strengthen this lovely neighbourhood? We are working on public spaces, such as the streets. And on the social environment, so that everyone feels at home. Safety is on the agenda, for example tackling speeding. We\u2019re looking at mobility and local amenities, such as keeping local shops open. We keep people informed about what\u2019s on offer.
