Commercial waste collection in Apeldoorn

You run a business, and that involves waste. As a business owner, you are responsible for the collection of your commercial waste, including its storage and the costs associated with collection. To this end, you enter into a contract with an authorised waste collector. The costs depend on the type of waste, the quantity and the frequency of collection.

When choosing a waste collector, you may wish to consider the following:

  • Sustainability: Some providers operate under a zero-emission policy. Opting for this is a future-proof choice, as we are also working on zero-emission regulations in Apeldoorn.
  • Waste separation: How well can you sort different types of waste for collection?
  • Flexibility: Does the contract suit your company’s circumstances?

Sorting commercial waste

Waste separation is compulsory in the Netherlands and helps us move towards a circular economy. The better waste is separated, the less residual waste there is left to incinerate. That benefits both the environment and our local authority.

Knowing what is expected of you

In the Netherlands, there are clear rules governing commercial waste. As a business owner, you have a number of obligations under the Environmental Management Act and local by-laws:

  • You must collect and store waste on your own property. Waste may only be placed in public areas on the day of collection. To do so, place it in the agreed location, as arranged with your waste collector.
  • It is compulsory to have a contract with an authorised waste collector.
  • You must sort your waste for collection (see waste streams above)
  • You are responsible for keeping the immediate surroundings of your business clean (for catering establishments: a 25 m² area around the premises).
  • Containers must not be left in public spaces on a permanent basis without the explicit permission of the local authority.

  • Rubbish bins are for rubbish left by visitors to the city, not for household or commercial waste.
  • Circulus’s communal bins – for glass, paper and cardboard, and general waste, for example – are for residents’ household waste. These are not intended for business use. For general waste, please contact Circulus for business use options (with a card, subject to a fee).
