It’s a real shame when an appliance or item of clothing breaks. There’s often no need to throw it away. Repairing it is often easier than you might think. It doesn’t matter whether you’re handy or not. There are also volunteers and professionals who can repair your broken items.
Broken stuff? Repair it!
Gadgets. Fridges, laptops, TVs, hoovers and mobile phones – we have more and more of them, and we’re throwing them away faster and faster. All these gadgets we own consume raw materials. The Earth does not have enough raw materials to keep up with the pace at which we continue to produce them.
That is why it is important to buy less, to use the things we have for longer, and to repair them when they break. These are all part of the circular economy! Apeldoorn City Council believes it is important to encourage residents to repair more. We’ve done this through the Sharepair and Heel Apeldoorn Repareert projects, and their follow-up initiatives E6.

- Have your faulty appliance repaired by a professional
In this way, we can work together to move towards a community where repairing things is seen as important. That’s good for your wallet, your mood and our planet!
Rise in e-waste
The mountain of consumer electronic waste is growing at an ever-faster rate. This is both harmful to the environment and a drain on people’s wallets. Research by the United Nations shows that a record 62 million tonnes of e-waste was produced in 2022. This represents an increase of 82% compared with 2010. By 2030, this figure is set to rise by a further 32% to 82 million tonnes.
