To have your gender changed on your birth certificate, you must meet the following conditions:
- You must be at least 16 years old at the time of application
- You were born in Apeldoorn
- You are a Dutch national. If you are not a Dutch national, you may only submit an application if you hold a valid residence permit and have been living in the Netherlands for at least one year
- You hold a certificate issued for that purpose appointed expert.
If you were born abroad, you must register your birth with the registrar in The Hague.
The law only allows us to change your gender to male or female. It is not possible to change your gender to ‘unknown’.
If you meet the criteria, you can apply in person to have your gender changed on your birth certificate. Please book an appointment online to do so.
Please bring the following to your appointment:
- a valid form of identification
- a statement from a designated expert (see Terms and Conditions).
Changing your gender on your birth certificate is free of charge. Please bear in mind, however, that there will be a charge for a new identity document (passport, identity card and/or driving licence).
