Do you pay the statutory excess in instalments?

In that case, please wait for your final statement. This final statement will show the excess you have used up and any money you may be due back from your health insurer.

Don’t have a DigiD yet?
In that case, it’s actually quicker if you apply for it first. You can do this at the start of the application form. Once you’ve received your DigiD, you can apply for the allowance.

Has your partner already applied for the allowance?
Please make sure you log in using your own name and DigiD, and not your partner’s.

Have you recently received a healthcare bill for the year 2025? If so, you can apply for the 2025 allowance after all. Please keep original supporting documents, such as proof of income, bank statements, payment receipts and/or healthcare bills, in a safe place. We may ask you to provide these up to one year after the date of approval.

You can use the button above to apply for the allowance for 2026 (using DigiD). You must be able to prove that you meet the conditions of the scheme. Please keep original supporting documents, such as proof of income, bank statements, payment receipts and/or healthcare bills, in a safe place. We may ask you to provide these up to one year after the date of approval. You will receive your decision immediately by email at the address you have provided.

You are entitled to the statutory excess allowance if you meet the following conditions:

  • You are aged 18 or over
  • Your household income is less than 130% of the minimum (see the table or if your income remains below this amount)

The following applies to students:

  • You are aged 18 or over
  • You are a single parent who is a student, and your income does not exceed 130% of the social assistance standard (excluding holiday allowance) (see the table or if your income remains below this amount)

The amount of the allowance is half of the statutory excess you have used up. In 2026, the statutory excess will be €385. The allowance is therefore a maximum of €192.50.

If you are receiving debt counselling, you can also apply for the statutory excess allowance. It does not matter if your household income exceeds 130% of the social minimum.

In this case, you can apply for the scheme by clicking the button above.
