A Royal Honour, also known as a ‘Lintje’, is a token of appreciation for individuals who, without seeking personal gain, have rendered outstanding service to an association, institution, community organisation or within their workplace.
There are various types of awards. Anyone can nominate someone. If you know someone who has been working for the good of society for many years, please feel free to nominate them.
Nominating someone for a royal honour takes a lot of time. The process requires the commitment of both those making the nomination and those supporting it.
You can find more information about the application process on the website www.lintjes.nl. Here you will also find the steps you need to follow to apply for the award. The process is entirely digital. It is also still possible to submit an application by email or post. In that case, you can download an application form.
The annual honours list is announced on the last working day before King’s Day each year. The online application must be submitted by 1 July of the preceding year at the latest. Please note that the complete application, including all necessary supporting documents, must be received by us by 15 July at the latest.
For an interim event, the lead time is six months.
A person does not receive a royal honour just like that. He or she must have made a long-term, intensive and exceptional contribution to society. These achievements must be demonstrable, for example through letters of support from the relevant organisations. Furthermore, the candidate must, amongst other things, meet the criteria set out below:
- Exemplary behaviour
- Socially active (e.g. voluntary work, organisational and/or administrative activities)
- Long-term and intensive commitment
- Still active, or having recently ceased operations
