Participating in the political market

You can usually speak at Politieke Markt meetings on Thursday evenings. As a resident of Apeldoorn, you will be given the opportunity at the start of the meeting to express your views on the matter being discussed by the councillors.

How long can you record your message for?

As a speaker, you will usually be given around 5 minutes’ speaking time. If there are a lot of people wishing to speak, there is a maximum speaking time of 20 minutes for everyone combined, based on a one-hour meeting. If necessary, the chair may decide to allow the speakers the full hour and to continue the meeting at the next session.

When should you not join in the conversation?

You are not allowed to join in the discussion:

  • if a preliminary draft of an environmental plan is discussed at the meeting
  • during a ‘technical session’: a meeting on non-political, procedural matters
  • during the announcements at the start of the meeting
  • during the plenary council meeting

Listener

Of course, you can also simply attend the council meetings as a member of the public. In that case, you do not need to register in advance. You can also follow the meetings live online via the council information system.

Would you like to have your say?

You can register to speak at the Council Secretariat. You can do this by email or by telephone.
