Course on political engagement

Apeldoorn City Council regularly organises a course called ‘Politically Active’. Through this course, the council aims to encourage the people of Apeldoorn to become politically active – for example, as a member of a political party, on an advisory board or as a city councillor.

Who is the course aimed at?

The course Politically Active is aimed at anyone who is considering becoming politically active but is not yet sure exactly what the options are. There are also many residents who want to know how they can have a greater say in local decision-making. The course is also very suitable for these people.

How does politics work?

What active role can you play as a resident? What is the responsibility of central government, and what is the responsibility of the local authority? When is it up to the Mayor and Aldermen, and what are the powers of the local council? During the course Politically Active These kinds of questions are covered.

Programme

The course consists of five sessions. As well as gaining theoretical knowledge, participants also improve their skills, such as debating. Theory is interspersed with practical assignments. Guest lecturers give presentations and, of course, participants also meet local politicians and administrators to hear about their real-world experiences.
