The agricultural sector in the Netherlands, including our farmers in Apeldoorn, is facing major challenges. The targets relating to nature, water, climate, nitrogen and biodiversity at national and European level have far-reaching consequences.

Why do we think agriculture is important?
The uncertainty this creates is taking a heavy toll on our farmers and their families. Farmers work hard every day to secure the future of their farms and, as a result, face difficult choices: is my farm sustainable enough, can I pass it on to my children, and which investments will pay off?
Whilst the government is pushing for significant changes in agriculture, the future outlook and revenue model for agricultural entrepreneurs remain unclear. As a local authority, we are aware that our influence over these developments is limited. Nevertheless, wherever possible, we wish to contribute to a sustainable future for the agricultural sector. After all, the sector’s impact extends beyond the farm itself – it shapes the landscape, influences life in the villages and the countryside, and is of great significance to all the people of Apeldoorn.
In order to contribute to a sustainable future for the agricultural sector, we have drawn up the Agriculture Action Plan (2023–2026).
