Griftpark: a park that brings the city centre together

Over the coming years, Apeldoorn’s city centre will be transformed into the Apeldoorn City Park. The Griftpark project is contributing to this. The park, comprising Hofstraat, Kanaalstraat and Kalverstraat, connects the areas around the railway, the canal and the city centre. Soon, you’ll be able to enjoy a lovely walk from the Apeldoorn Canal, past the Griftpark, to the Amaliapark. The bus route will be rerouted to a much greener Kalverstraat. Pedestrians and cyclists will be given more space.

What is the Griftpark?

Griftpark will be a place for exercise and socialising, with space set aside for the Grift stream. That is why the electric bus route is being rerouted to a much greener Kalverstraat.

Hofstraat-Kanaalstraat is set to become a green and welcoming park – a place you’ll enjoy visiting and want to return to. A place where you can go for a run, stop for a drink after a day’s shopping, or play a game of cards with your neighbours outside your front door on a summer’s evening. What exactly will the park look like? A great deal of work has been done on this in collaboration with business owners, property owners, residents, stakeholders and interested parties.

We have now moved on a step further and have developed the preliminary sketches into preliminary designs. This is making the plans increasingly clear. View the preliminary designs for Griftpark (PDF, 5 MB).

Griftpark is part of a wider whole

The Griftpark is a development we will be working on over the coming years and forms part of the plans set out in the Development Plan for Apeldoorn City Park (pdf, 12.4 MB). With the city park, Apeldoorn is continuing to develop into a unique city with a distinct character. A city centre that remains easily accessible is part of that. You can read more about this at apeldoorn.nl/mobility-vision.

The ‘Apeldoorn City Park’ development plan forms part of the Environmental Vision. The Environmental Vision describes how Apeldoorn is set to develop in the run-up to 2040. Apeldoorn’s city centre forms an important part of this. That is why a separate development plan has been drawn up for this area.

Planning for the development of Griftpark

If everything goes according to plan, work on Kalverstraat will take place in 2026. Work on Hofstraat-Kanaalstraat will begin in 2027.

Funding and collaboration

This project is made possible in part by a European grant from the LIFE-IP Climate Adaptation Fund. Further information about this programme can be found on the Climate Adaptation Netherlands website.
