Apeldoorn aims to generate as much renewable energy as it consumes by 2050 at the latest, with 2030 as a key milestone. Wind energy is one of the sources that can play a part in this, alongside solar power, energy-saving measures and other renewable solutions.
The local authority is considering what is feasible and responsible in the long term for people, nature and the environment.
No large wind turbines will be installed in the municipality of Apeldoorn by 2030. This is due to provincial policy and the need to protect the natural environment around the Veluwe. At the same time, the municipality remains committed to its long-term renewable energy targets for 2050. In line with the Regional Energy Supply Programme, Apeldoorn is keeping the door open to large wind turbines and, together with the region and the province, is monitoring whether, should regulations and circumstances change, opportunities arise at suitable locations, such as on industrial estates or alongside motorways.
In Apeldoorn, a policy has been adopted for small wind turbines with a maximum tip height of 25 metres. These are primarily intended for private landowners and local (citizens’) initiatives. To regulate this carefully, the municipal council has Policy framework for small wind turbines (PDF, 769 kB) has been adopted. It sets out where small wind turbines may be installed and the conditions that must be met.
In order to make informed decisions, the local authority is carrying out a study, in collaboration with the regional and provincial authorities, into the potential and impacts of wind energy.
