Nature and tranquillity in the city

Berg & Bos City Park is a place where you can leave the hustle and bustle of the city behind. The combination of dense woods, open fields and water features creates a varied landscape. The park has its own charm in every season: from fresh spring greens and flowering plants to warm autumn colours.

The ponds and streams attract a variety of birds and other animals. If you look closely, you might spot ducks, water birds and perhaps even a kingfisher. This makes the park not only a place to relax, but also a place to experience nature up close.

Walking and running

The park has an extensive network of footpaths, suitable for both short loops and longer routes. Thanks to the varied terrain, Stadspark Berg & Bos is also popular with runners.

Sport and leisure

There are various sports facilities in and around the park for young and old alike. These include a climbing forest, sports pitches and space to move about freely. A fitness trail will be laid out near the playground in the summer of 2026.

Out and about with the children

Stadspark Berg & Bos is a lovely place for families to visit. There’s plenty of space to play, explore and have a picnic. You can relax or get active on the playground, or pop over to see the deer and wild boar.

Meet up and relax

With picnic spots, open grassy areas and quiet corners, the park is the perfect place to meet up with friends and family. Bring a blanket and enjoy an afternoon surrounded by greenery.

Places of interest in and around the park

Berg & Bos City Park is more than just a park. There are various special spots in and around the area that make a visit all the more interesting:

• The observation tower: Climb the 26-metre-high tower and enjoy a magnificent view over the park and the surrounding area of Apeldoorn.
• The Bosch Pond: One of the most recognisable spots in the park, surrounded by greenery and ideal for a peaceful stroll.
• Apenheul and other attractions: There are well-known attractions in the immediate vicinity of the park, making a visit to the city park easy to combine with a day out.

A park steeped in history

Berg & Bos City Park has a rich history dating back to the early 20th century. The park was created at a time when Apeldoorn was expanding and there was a need for a large city park for leisure and recreation. The area, which originally consisted of woodland and heathland, was developed with footpaths, ponds and open spaces, whilst preserving the natural landscape as much as possible.

The park is characterised by its variations in elevation. This undulating landscape gives the park a unique character and makes a walk here just that little bit different from a walk in a flat city park. Over the years, the park has been further developed, with facilities for sport, wildlife and education, without losing its natural charm.

Tips:

• The Tea House is open every day. Be amazed by the changing exhibitions on Apeldoorn’s history, or find out more about the Veluwe in the permanent exhibition.
• Walk a little further into the woods towards the forest meadow and find complete peace and quiet in this special spot in the heart of the woods.
