DigiD is your personal digital identifier in the Netherlands.
Using DigiD, you can securely log in to the websites of government bodies and organisations, such as:
- municipality
- Tax Office (Belastingdienst)
- Social Insurance Bank (SVB)
- hospitals and insurance companies
- DigiD works like a login (username) and password, sometimes with additional verification via SMS or an app.
It is needed for:
- submitting applications and documents online
- tax audits
- receiving social security benefits
- access to medical data

DigiD, your online identity
In the Netherlands, you need a DigiD (the equivalent of «Dii» in Ukraine). With DigiD, you can verify your identity online and log in to government websites, such as those of local authorities, the Social Insurance Bank (Sociale Verzekeringsbank) and the Tax and Customs Administration. DigiD is also used on the websites of hospitals, pharmacies and health insurance companies. Websites that require DigiD display this DigiD logo.
DigiD request
To request a DigiD, you will need to enter your personal identification number (BSN) and date of birth. The personal identification number, which you were given when you registered with the local authority, consists of 9 digits. You will also need to provide the house or flat number and postcode of the address at which you are registered. If you are staying at a municipal refugee reception centre, you must enter the house number and postcode of the reception centre.
- Visit the website www.digid.nl.
- Click on «Request or activate».
- At the bottom of the screen, click on «DigiD application form» («DigiD-aanvraagformulier»).
- Enter your date of birth, postcode and house or flat number, then click «Next».
- Please create and enter a username and password. You must enter your password twice to confirm it.
- Enter your telephone number and email address, then click «Next».
- An SMS containing a code will be sent to the telephone number provided. Enter this code and click «Next».
- An email containing a code will be sent to the email address provided. Enter this code and click «Next» («Volgende»).
You have now submitted your DigiD request. You will receive a letter by post within 3 working days. Please note: activation takes
This must be done within 21 days using the code in the email, your username and password.
DigiD activation
• Visit the webpage www.digid.nl and click on ‘Request or activate’.
• Click on ‘Enter activation code’.
• To activate DigiD, enter your DigiD username and password. Click on ‘Log in’ (‘Inloggen’).
• An SMS containing a code will be sent to the phone number provided during the enquiry. Enter this code and click on
‘Далі’ (‘Next’).
• Enter the code provided in the email. Click on ‘Activation’ (‘Activeren’).
Your DigiD has been activated. From now on, you can log in to government websites that require a DigiD.
DigiD app
The DigiD app is the easiest way to use your online ID securely. Then you won’t need to
You won’t need to remember a complex password; you’ll simply enter a PIN that you choose yourself. Download the DigiD app from
Google Play or the Apple App Store. You’ll need to activate the app first.
- Open the app and tap ‘Activation’ (‘Activeren’).
- The DigiD app will ask whether you are using the app on another device. Select ‘No’ (‘Nee’).
- Enter your DigiD username and password, then click ‘Next’ (‘Volgende’).
- Create and enter a PIN. Repeat the PIN. From now on, you will log in to the app using this PIN.
- The DigiD app will ask if you wish to activate ‘ID check’. If you are using
On an iPhone, tap ‘Start scanning’. On an Android device, scanning starts automatically.
Please wait 10 seconds. The app will display an option to skip the scan step. Tap ‘Skip scan’
(‘Skip scan’). - You will receive a text message containing a 6-digit code. Enter this code in the DigiD app.
- You can now see two orange sliders on the screen. Leave them switched on.
- Enter your email address, if you haven’t already done so, and then enter the verification code, which will be
sent to this address.
Your DigiD app has been activated and you can start using it straight away.
