If you are moving abroad, you will need to provide proof to certain authorities that you have deregistered in the Netherlands. Please check with the authority that requires this proof to find out how you should provide it.
Proof of deregistration
These are the options:
- If you notify the authorities of your emigration in advance, you will be sent a confirmation on the day your application is processed. This confirms that your declaration of departure has been processed. The confirmation is free of charge and is acceptable to customs. It is not an official proof of deregistration.
- If you visit the counter at the town hall on the day of your departure and register your departure, you will be given a confirmation that your departure registration has been processed. You can also purchase an extract containing details of your departure. Both documents are acceptable for customs purposes. The letter is free of charge; the extract is costs connected.
- Would you like a certificate of deregistration after leaving the Netherlands? If so, you will need to apply for an Extract from the Non-Residents Register (RNI). You can do this at a local council with an RNI counter. This document is suitable for customs and for authorities abroad.
Please note: if you notify us of your departure online, you will receive a confirmation letter by email. You can only request a certificate of residence on the day of your departure at the reception desk.
Are you travelling to Curaçao, Aruba, Bonaire, Sint Eustatius, Sint Maarten or Saba?
In that case, you will need a certificate of deregistration from the municipality of Apeldoorn in order to register there. We will then send you the correct certificate free of charge.
