Rights and obligations relating to social security benefits

We do our best to support you, in close consultation with you. The aim is to help you find (voluntary) work or training that suits you. In doing so, we’ll minimise the administrative paperwork required of you. This way, we can keep the focus on the goals you’ve agreed with your contact person.

During a meeting with your contact person, you will come to mutual agreements. The Government of the Netherlands website contains a an overview of all your rights and obligations. You’ll find a few of them below.

These are your rights:

  • We will provide you with a clear decision on your application or appeal in good time.
  • We will provide you with accurate and comprehensive information that is relevant to you.
  • You will receive your benefit on time. View the payment dates.

These are your obligations

  • Please let us know within one week regarding changes in your circumstances (using DigiD). This will enable us to let you know as soon as possible whether this will affect your benefits.
  • You are committed to participating fully in society. To this end, you make the most of opportunities to find (voluntary) work, or to find training to improve your prospects – even if these do not quite meet your expectations.
  • You work well with your contact person at the local authority and honour your commitments.

We have rules for anyone who deliberately provides incorrect information or omits information. This is particularly the case if, as a result, that person receives an (excessive) benefit to which they are not entitled.

Anyone who has received too much benefit must repay the excess amount, even if this was not done intentionally. We investigate whether a fine may be imposed if information has been deliberately provided incorrectly or incompletely. We may increase such fines if this happens repeatedly in the case of the same person.
