Symone de Bruin has been the municipal secretary of Apeldoorn since 1 June 2023. Together with four thematic directors, she forms the executive board of the municipality of Apeldoorn.

As municipal secretary, Symone de Bruin is the chief adviser to the mayor and aldermen. She translates the wishes of the political leadership into plans that municipal officials can implement, working alongside partners both within and outside Apeldoorn.
As Chief Executive, Symone de Bruin is also the head of all civil servants at Apeldoorn City Council. She also represents the council in various regional, national and European networks.
Symone de Bruin previously worked in the social services sector at Hengelo Council. She also served as a senior strategist within the Enschede Council group. She subsequently held various positions in Apeldoorn. She has been working in the spatial planning sector since 2013, initially as a unit manager and, from 2019, as a member of the group executive board with responsibility for the Spatial Planning and Economy portfolio.
In her role, she has served as secretary of the national network of Urban Development Directors for the past six years. She is chair of the VNG’s national task force on the Environment Act. She is also independent chair of TBO Kadaster’s national user network for the Digital System for the Environment Act.
She had previously been active in politics as a councillor on Leeuwarden City Council and the Provincial Council of Overijssel.
