On Saturday afternoon, 17 October, we will be celebrating the start of construction of the Apeldoorn Canal 200 years ago. We will be marking the occasion with a range of activities on and along Kanaal Zuid, between Aalscholverweg/Matenpoort and Marchantstraat/Laan van Kuipershof.

The industrial past of Kanaal Zuid has been brought to life at various locations. For example, scale models and information boards have been installed, and a silhouette can be seen. The benches along the Peddelpad path beside the canal have also been fitted with information boards and a QR code, allowing visitors to learn about the plants, animals and history of this ‘wet path’.

Programme

The programme begins on Saturday 17 October at 1.00 pm at the Kwinkslag with light refreshments and a speech by Councillor Peter Messerschmidt. Afterwards, you can, amongst other things, take a ride on a dragon boat and watch a demonstration of lime firefighting. To round off the day, the Peddelpad will be opened by the children’s mayor on Marchantstraat, and you can take part in nature-themed craft activities.
