Mayor Ton Heerts expresses his appreciation for Derks’s work: “Nick quickly settled into his role and, with his unifying style, made a visible contribution to the administration of Apeldoorn. He was approachable and energetic, and took significant steps, particularly in the development of the city centre. We thank him for his dedication to Apeldoorn and wish him every success in Doesburg.”

In recent years, Derks has been responsible for economic affairs, social welfare and security. He was also deputy mayor and was responsible, amongst other things, for the development of the town centre. In his role, he built up a good relationship with the business community and was actively committed to regional cooperation within the Stedendriehoek region. The outgoing councillor looks back with gratitude on his time in Apeldoorn: “I have had the privilege of serving as a councillor in Apeldoorn for over two years. I am incredibly grateful for the trust placed in me by residents, business owners, colleagues and politicians. I have learnt a great deal and met some remarkable people. I will take these experiences with me as I embark on this new chapter. An important period is beginning for Doesburg, not least in the run-up to the local government reorganisation involving Zevenaar, Duiven and Westervoort. I am looking forward to getting started there, and I will carry Apeldoorn with me as a city that has given me so much and on which I look back with pride.”
