On Wednesday 27 May, Maggie Feng was awarded the Silver Medal of Honour by the municipality of Apeldoorn. Mayor Ton Heerts presented the award during her farewell ceremony as director of Wittenborg University of Applied Sciences.
The surprise took place in the presence of guests from the worlds of education, business and the Apeldoorn community, within which Feng had played a unifying role for many years. With this medal of honour, the council expresses its appreciation for her long-standing and wide-ranging commitment to the city of Apeldoorn.
Feng had been a member of Wittenborg’s board since 2007 and played a key role in the university’s development into an international educational institution with a strong presence in Apeldoorn. Under her leadership, Wittenborg became a major asset for the city, and she helped to raise Apeldoorn’s profile as an international student city.
In addition to her work at Wittenborg, Feng was active in various social and economic networks. For example, she co-founded Topvrouwen Apeldoorn and served as a jury member for the Apeldoorn Business Awards for many years. She also holds positions at Rabobank as a member of the Members’ Council and the Supervisory Board.
In addition, she is committed to cultural and regional initiatives, including the Royal Light Festival and partnerships in the Stedendriehoek region, as well as international programmes such as Interreg and New Techpark.
The municipality of Apeldoorn is praised for its wide-ranging social engagement, its role in bringing people together across various networks, and its ongoing commitment to the development of the city and the region.
By awarding the Silver Medal of Honour, Apeldoorn expresses its deep appreciation for a contribution spanning many years, one that extends beyond a single organisation and is evident in the city’s overall development.
The Silver Medal of Honour of the municipality of Apeldoorn was established in 1988. The medal is awarded as a token of appreciation to individuals and organisations who have rendered exceptional service to the community of the municipality of Apeldoorn and/or have demonstrated particularly courageous or compassionate behaviour.
