If you meet the criteria, you can apply via the online application form Apply for or cancel a temporary licence to serve alcohol.
Please do this at least 3 weeks before the event, or 8 weeks in advance, at major events. You will need a username and password.
It takes 2 weeks to process your application. If the exemption forms part of an events licence, the process takes 8 weeks.
Applying for a temporary licence to serve alcohol costs €116.75 per application.
The following terms and conditions apply:
- You must be at least 21 years old
- You meet the good conduct requirements (our staff member checks this automatically)
- You are eligible for a temporary exemption to install a beer tap on your terrace if you hold an alcohol licence that does not specify your terrace
- There must be a special occasion of a temporary nature
- You may apply for a temporary licence for a beer tap on your terrace up to 12 times a year, and you must arrange this in one go per calendar year. Please specify the relevant dates all at once.
If you wish to serve alcoholic drinks more than 12 times a year, it is best to obtain a (new) licence to serve alcohol and operate a catering business applications.
If you wish to serve alcohol on a commercial basis during an event (for example, in a bar or restaurant), you will need a licence to serve alcohol and operate a catering business required.
There are sometimes additional rules in force during a major event such as serving drinks in plastic cups.
