Zero-emission zone from 2030

The Municipality of Apeldoorn will introduce the zero-emission zone on 1 January 2030. A zero-emission zone is an area where businesses may only use zero-emission vans and lorries. The zero-emission zone does not apply to passenger cars.

Why are we doing this?

The introduction of the zero-emission zone stems from the national Climate Agreement. Under this agreement, it was agreed that the forty largest municipalities in the Netherlands would introduce a zero-emission zone. That is why Apeldoorn City Council has also decided to introduce a zero-emission zone. The aim of this zone is to reduce CO₂ emissions by allowing only cleaner and fewer vehicles into the zone. In this way, the zero-emission zone contributes to a cleaner and more attractive city centre.

When will things start to change?

The zero-emission zone will be introduced in Apeldoorn on 1 January 2030. By ending the transitional phase and bringing forward the implementation date to 1 January 2030, the same rules will apply to all businesses in Apeldoorn. This is clear and transparent.

A successful event on electric driving

To help business owners prepare for the switch to electric vehicles, the council organised the free ‘Drive to the Future’ event at De Zwitsalhal on 15 October. Business owners had the opportunity to talk to colleagues who had already made the switch to electric vehicles. Around 40 companies attended, leading to many valuable discussions.
