Anklaar is situated in the north-east of Apeldoorn. The neighbourhood was built during the 1960s. It comprises a mix of flats and terraced houses. Around half of these are rental properties. Just over 4,400 people live there. The demographic mix is similar to that of other neighbourhoods in Apeldoorn.
On average, residents are reasonably satisfied with living in Anklaar. One positive aspect is that many homes are quite spacious. It’s also handy that there’s a lovely shopping centre in the neighbourhood. Schools, sports facilities and healthcare services are just around the corner. And many neighbours get on well with one another.
Residents do find it a shame that there are few activities in Anklaar. Some of them are quite willing to roll up their sleeves and get involved. Residents also sometimes experience nuisance from traffic, noise or drug use.
One cause for concern is that the number of vulnerable residents is growing. This is particularly the case in the south-west of the neighbourhood. Some residents are struggling to make ends meet. There are also other issues, such as health problems. These are matters that require extra attention.
At the same time, there are lots of positive developments taking place in Anklaar. The neighbourhood is undergoing rapid development. In recent years, various parts of the neighbourhood have undergone a major refurbishment. For example, five of the six block-of-flats have been demolished. They have made way for new-build properties: flats and detached houses. The shopping centre has also been refurbished and expanded. And there are plans to revamp Wilhelm Tellstraat.
In short: Anklaar is a neighbourhood with a lot to offer. But we do need to work hard to keep life here good. We do this together: residents, the local council and other organisations.
Between 2024 and 2034, we will be focusing particularly on six areas. First and foremost, we will be working on the social environment to ensure that Anklaar remains a great place to live. We will be tackling housing and public spaces: ensuring there are enough suitable homes and pleasant outdoor spaces. We are investing in sustainability: energy-efficient homes for everyone. We are tackling mobility: safe roads and adequate public transport. And we are looking at how safety can be improved, for example by reducing nuisance.
