De Hoeven Vitality Programme

The De Maten neighbourhood was built in the 1970s and 1980s. De Hoeven is the newest part of this neighbourhood. It is a neighbourhood with detached houses, plenty of green spaces and lovely walking and cycling paths. It is home to over 4,500 people.

Good living

Most people enjoy living here. Relations with neighbours are often good. Some have lived here since the beginning. As they get older, some would like to move into a retirement home. But there are few such homes in this neighbourhood.

Activities and socialising

Residents like to keep up to date with what’s going on in the neighbourhood. Activities help to keep life enjoyable and encourage people to look out for one another. The local council also offers support for neighbourhood initiatives. Not all residents are aware of this.

Traffic, transport and facilities

Schools, sports pitches and the shopping centre are nearby. Residents of De Hoeven are pleased about this.

There is certainly a demand for good places for older teenagers to exercise. Another area of concern is public transport to the hospital. People need additional transport options on this route. Furthermore, some road junctions could be made safer.

Sustainability

Many residents consider sustainability to be an important issue. They would also like to reduce their energy bills.

De Maten is set to become a gas-free neighbourhood. Residents are concerned about the plans for this. They would like to have a say and be kept well informed.

Taking action together

Over the coming years, we will be working to address these and other issues. We have drawn up an action plan. Together, we are committed to ensuring a bright future for De Hoeven.

Agenda

Four areas will receive particular attention in the coming period. We are investing time in creating a supportive social environment where people look out for one another. Transport, road safety and local amenities are high on the agenda. We are committed to maintaining high standards of public safety. And we are working to improve public spaces and promote sustainability.

Objective

Action/Point for attention

Who

Community gatherings and activities

We let residents know what’s on in the neighbourhood. For example, through the Matenkrant. We also show how the council can support local initiatives. And twice a year, we organise an event to thank residents for their efforts.

Safe roads and junctions

We are looking into whether it is possible to make crossing the junction at the Kapelmeestershoeve safer. Residents have also raised other issues. We will take these situations into account during the major maintenance works.

Municipality

Less nuisance caused by ‘loitering youths’

The area around De Terebint primary school has become a gathering place for young people. This is causing a nuisance for local residents. Don Bosco is engaging in dialogue with the young people. We are also looking at what the school can do. Together, we are trying to find the best solution.

Safe neighbourhood

Most residents of De Hoeven feel safe. We’re working together to make sure it stays that way.

Involving residents in the energy transition

Together with local residents, we are exploring how De Maten can become a gas-free neighbourhood. We are also providing information about the process.

Who

Good places for young people to play

The play areas are not well suited to different age groups. We’re working together to see how we can improve this. For older young people, there will be more opportunities for physical activity in Matenpark.

Good transport to the hospital

We are looking into whether an additional form of transport to the hospital could be introduced.
