Yes, you can, if you sign up for our trial. This will allow you to charge your electric car on public roads from your own charging point in 2026. This is possible with an extended private connection (VPA). This is a cable running from the power point on your own property to your car in a public car park. However, there are rules in place to ensure the safety and accessibility of the pavement. You can read these rules on the VPA page. The pilot scheme will be evaluated at the end of 2026. The local authority will then decide whether to continue the scheme. The pilot scheme may also be terminated earlier.

We do not automatically install charging points in new-build estates. We install the charging points on request.

It may be the case that the person applying for the charging point does not live on the street where the charging point is installed. This is because the charging points form part of a public charging network. The charging points are distributed in such a way that a single charging point can be used by several (as many as possible) electric vehicle drivers. In this way, we maintain a balance between parking spaces for charging electric cars and parking spaces that are open to everyone.

If the applicant meets the criteria, we check whether there is already a charging point within a 250-metre walking distance within the existing network. If this is not the case, we assess whether the charging location would be a good addition to the network. We distribute the charging points within the network as efficiently as possible. This ensures that different people (visitors, residents, employees, etc.) can make the most of the charging points.

No, that’s not possible. You need to submit a request to the provider, not to the local authority.

You can submit your application to the provider. They will assess the application and, if necessary, consult with the local authority.

The local authority does not provide any grant for the installation of charging points on private property.
