The Netherlands is doing its utmost in all sorts of ways to slow down, or even halt, climate change. We are switching en masse to ‘sustainable’ forms of energy – from the sun, the wind and other natural sources.

Apeldoorn’s energy
In many places, people are already working hard on the energy transition. Apeldoorn is already on the right track. The first neighbourhoods are already preparing to switch to sustainable heating as a replacement for natural gas. Many residents are insulating their homes. And solar panels are being installed on an increasing number of commercial buildings. Nevertheless, there is still a great deal to be done on the path towards an energy-neutral and natural gas-free Apeldoorn by 2050.
Approach
The Energy Transition Programme 2023–2030 (pdf, 7 Mb) sets out our path towards an energy-neutral and natural gas-free Apeldoorn by 2050. An important milestone is 2030. Until 2030, we are focusing on three main objectives: reducing energy consumption, increasing the supply of renewable energy, and ensuring everyone can play their part. The Action Plan sets out how we intend to achieve this. The focus in 2025 will be on energy security for everyone. This means a smart, sustainable and affordable energy system.
Action Plan 2026
The 2026 Action Plan for the energy transition in Apeldoorn is now finalised. This plan follows on from our previous Action Plan for 2024 and 2025. It forms part of the broader Energy Transition Programme 2023–2030. Our goal remains the same: by 2050, we aim for Apeldoorn to be energy-neutral and natural gas-free. Anyone can take part
We provide residents, businesses and organisations with information about their role in the energy transition, so that they can then take action themselves. This can be done in small steps or all at once. We ensure that residents and business owners receive the right support to make their homes, business premises or business processes more sustainable. This includes financial support. For example, we help residents who cannot afford to make their homes more sustainable themselves. The energy transition affects us all. We can only achieve this if we work together.
