This little space on the page will remain empty until the end of August. Or rather: there’ll be other pieces here, not written by me. I’m not going far or for long – I don’t really feel the need to. But I think it’s good practice to take a step back in the summer, to get a bit of distance for a while.
Although, to be honest, I must add straight away: insofar as that’s possible. Because, of course, the world doesn’t stand still. Unfortunately. It would be nice if it did, every now and then. Just for nothing out of the ordinary to happen. No fuss, no conflicts, no accidents, no violence, no misery, no sadness.
Just people listening to one another, sitting together cosily on a bench, taking in all the beauty around them. A moment’s peace, a moment of doing nothing. Just sitting on our hands for a while.
And, strangely enough, that’s actually quite difficult. Most people are almost always in ‘on’ mode. With responsibilities, tasks, obligations, deadlines and appointments.
I’m going to give it a go. Go for a bit of a walk. Do some fun things with the family. Grab a bite to eat. Spend a bit less time on my phone.
I don’t just wish that for myself. I hope that everyone will find the time and peace of mind over the coming summer weeks to slow down a little and recharge their batteries. So that afterwards we can get back to work full of energy, in and for Apeldoorn.
