Spring Evening

There’s plenty in the world to worry about.
Sometimes you can also choose not to do that for a while. Not out of indifference.
But because you have to find the right balance in life.

Fortunately, there are quite a few things that make you happy, too.
And these might well be things that seem obvious, or quite ordinary.
The days getting longer again, for example. That said, the switch from winter time to summer time isn’t a cause for celebration for everyone – for some, it really throws their body clock out of sync.
But what I really love about it is that you can stay outside a bit longer in the evening – in your own garden or on the balcony, or at one of the many outdoor cafés in Apeldoorn city centre.
I really do enjoy that – the buzz of voices, the clinking of glasses, a burst of laughter. And then, rising above it all, the song of a blackbird on the roof ridge. The joy of a lovely spring evening.

I’ll admit it: I don’t always take the time and find the peace and quiet to enjoy it in this way. Yet there’s all that commotion in the world, demanding our attention.
But when it does work out, I count myself lucky to have so much beauty around me. It might be quite ordinary, a spring evening in Apeldoorn town centre. But it’s certainly something to be happy about.
