The building suffers from technical and structural defects. Modifications are necessary to keep the premises habitable. In addition, refurbishment is desirable to improve the care provided and enhance the quality of life in and around the building. At the same time, the building will be made more sustainable.
The refurbishment is extensive and affects the entire building. Intensive demolition, construction and installation work is being carried out on all floors. Due to the nature and scale of the work, it is neither safe nor responsible to use the building whilst the refurbishment is underway.
No, the Medical Care Unit and the laundrette on Stationsstraat will remain open. These two services cannot be temporarily relocated elsewhere. This is due to the extensive technical facilities and the licences required for them.
If everything goes according to plan, Omnizorg will temporarily move to Kanaal Noord 130 in December 2025. They will remain there until the refurbishment is complete. The refurbishment will take about a year and a half. This means that Omnizorg will return to Stationsstraat in the first quarter of 2027 at the earliest.
No, the capacity will remain virtually the same. It is only for social accommodation that there will be slightly more places available during busy periods. Single rooms will then be shared by two people. The refurbishment is not intended to accommodate the rise in homelessness. A separate plan has been drawn up for this purpose in collaboration with partners.
