What should you do if your drain is blocked?

• Where can I find the drain?
  This drain is situated on your own property, approximately 0.50 metres from the boundary. It is usually situated at a depth of approximately 0.80 to 1.40 metres in your garden. If the front of your house is directly adjacent to the kerb and there is no adjacent open space, the drain is located beneath the kerb, approximately half a metre from the façade. The sewer connection and the location of the drain are also shown on the Revised drawing of your property’s drainage system. • The blockage is on your own property
  The drain inspection chamber is empty. This means the blockage is on your own property. You can sort out the problem yourself or with the help of a drain-clearing company. You will have to cover the costs. If you are renting, the landlord is often responsible for resolving the problem. If you are renting, please check with your landlord.
• The blockage is on council land.
  The drain is full of water. The blockage is therefore on council land. Please contact us to resolve the problem. Report the blockage by calling 14 055. We are available 24 hours a day, every day, to deal with blockages. We will be happy to clear a blockage in the municipal section quickly and free of charge.
• The drain is the property of the landowner
  The drain is the property of the landowner. It is therefore your responsibility to clear any blockages (caused, for example, by plant or tree roots). Once you have finished, cover the drain and restore the garden or paving.
