There are only a limited number of spaces available in a grave. Sometimes, bereaved families may wish to bury more people in the same grave in the future than there is space for. In some cases, it is possible to make space. This process is known as consolidating a grave. This involves gathering the remains of those previously buried there and reburying them deeper. This creates space for new burials.
- Step 1: Submit an application
The person registered with us as the holder of the grave rights must submit a request for consolidation using the online form. - Step 2: Assessment of the application
The cemetery administration will process your application. We will then check whether the grave is suitable for consolidation. You will receive our response within 4 days. - Step 3: Approval by the Mayor
If permission is granted to merge the graves, you will receive the decision electronically. You will be notified of this via the email address you provided in the application. - Step 4: Implementation
The day before the funeral of the recently deceased person, the grave is opened and prepared. The grave is then ready in time for the funeral.
- You can only submit a request to combine graves if someone has died who is to be buried in that grave. In that case, the grave only needs to be opened once, for both the combination and the burial.
- The last burial in the grave took place more than 10 years ago. This is the statutory period of rest for the grave.
- It is not possible to carry out a joint burial at Wenum Cemetery due to the high groundwater level.
You can use the online form to request that the graves be joined. Please bear the following in mind:
- The request can only be made by the person registered with us as the person entitled to the grave.
