You are eligible for a second passport if you can demonstrate that you need it for business and professional reasons, which are:
- You are travelling to various countries, and there is a possibility that these countries are, or may come to be, in conflict with one another
- You are travelling at a time when your first passport is with the embassy of another country in connection with a visa application
Your first passport must still be valid for at least 6 months at the time of your application.
We do not issue a second passport for a single journey. In that case, please apply for a emergency passport at the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee (at Schiphol or at the brigades in North Holland, South Holland, Drenthe-IJsselstreek, North Eastern Border, South Brabant and South Limburg). Take to appointment:
- A clear passport photo taken no more than six months prior to the date of application (see the requirements for a passport photo (on the central government’s website)
- All the travel documents you have, regardless of whether they are still valid
- If your original passport or a previously issued second passport is being held by an embassy in connection with a visa application, you must also bring the following documents with you:
- Copies of the personal details page and all stamped pages of your original passport and/or second passport
- A statement from the embassy confirming that your (second) passport is being held there in connection with a visa application.
If you have lost a travel document, you can report it as lost directly at the counter.
You will receive an email when your second passport is ready. If you have not received an email or do not have an email address, you can collect your second passport after 6 working days. You must collect it in person, without an appointment, during opening hours.
You can apply for your passport urgently. This costs €60.30 more than an ordinary application.
- If you apply for the passport as a priority before 2.45 pm, you can collect it the next working day after 9.30 am. In exceptional cases, it takes two working days.
- You cannot submit an urgent application if you have already submitted a standard application. You cannot change a standard application into an urgent application.
