How do we offset your income against your benefit?
There are three ways to offset your income:
- Will you let us know your income before the submission deadline? If so, we will take this into account when calculating your benefit for that month. You will then receive your benefit payment at the usual time.
- If you report your income later, but do so before the 10th of the month following the submission deadline, we will still offset your income against your benefit in the same month, but your benefit payment will be made later. Please get in touch if this causes you any problems. We will then look for a solution.
- Do you receive your income after the 10th of the following month? If so, please contact us on 14 055. We may then need to adjust your income retrospectively.
Are you paid every four weeks rather than every month?
Your employer pays your salary every 4 weeks. You receive your supplementary benefit each month.
You will receive a salary 13 times a year and a benefit payment 12 times a year. As a result, the income deduction does not coincide with your benefit payment.
The 13th payslip you receive from your employer must be settled separately.
We do this in December or January.
If your income for period 13, taken as a whole, exceeds your benefit, we will offset the remaining amount against your benefit in the following months. You will not receive any benefit from us until this income has been offset. We do this for a maximum of 6 months. If not everything has been offset after 6 months, we will send you a letter explaining how to repay the remaining amount.
Please bear in mind the settlement. We recommend that you set aside some money for this.
Is your benefit coming to an end? If so, this means we have not been able to take all your income into account and you will need to repay a sum to us. You will then receive a letter from us.
Are you receiving benefits from the local authority? Are you starting a part-time job? If so, you may be able to keep part of your earnings on top of your benefits. We call this the ‘exemption for income from work’.
You can find out exactly how this works in your situation on the page Exemption of income from employment.
Please also include the following events on the income change form
- You will receive a (one-off) pension payment
- You will receive maintenance
- You will receive an inheritance or a gift
- You will receive a tax refund
You can complete a change form online. Once you have completed the income change form, you will automatically receive a change form from us every month.
