You can receive a refund for swimming lessons if:
- You a City Pass is covered by the RegelRecht scheme.
- Your child is aged 4.5 years or older, but under 18 years of age.
- You receive child benefit or foster care allowance for your child living at home.
Applying for the reimbursement involves a number of steps
- If you are eligible for the RegelRecht scheme, you can apply for reimbursement of the costs of swimming certificates A and B. We will send you a letter stating whether you are entitled to reimbursement of the costs of swimming lessons.
- You can choose which swimming pool your child attends for swimming lessons.
At De Sprenkelaar swimming pool or Aquacentrum Malkander, you’ll enjoy extra benefits such as free swimming and a ‘swim-along’ pass.

Please hand in the letter confirming our approval of the reimbursement at the swimming pool. You will not then have to pay anything yourself.
- You do not pay any enrolment fee or any fees for the final swimming test.
- The swimming pool offers a certificate guarantee. This means that the swimming pool ensures your child will obtain their swimming certificate within the agreed period.
- Your child will be issued with a swimming pass at the swimming pool where they are enrolled for swimming lessons, and may use this to swim for free during open swimming sessions when accompanied by a (paying) adult.
- Your child will receive a ‘swim-along pass’ as soon as the swimming lessons begin. From then on, an accompanying adult may also swim for free during open-swim sessions. Swimming regularly is fun and helps the learning process. Please note that this also applies only to the swimming pool where your child has their swimming lessons.
Children aged 4½ to 12 years
For children aged 4.5 to 12, you are offered a 16-month diploma guarantee for diplomas A and B. This means that your child has 16 months to achieve these swimming diplomas. After passing the A certificate, your child will automatically progress to the B certificate. To qualify for the certificate guarantee, your child must attend at least 90% of the lessons.
Children aged 12 to 18
For children aged 12 to 18, you are guaranteed an 8-month period to obtain their swimming certificates. This means your child has 8 months to pass the swimming certificates. After passing the A certificate, your child will automatically progress to the B certificate. To qualify for the certificate guarantee, your child must attend at least 90% of the lessons.
Swimming lessons at a different swimming pool
Does your child have swimming lessons at another swimming pool, or do they take part in school swimming lessons?
You will need to pay for the swimming lessons yourself first.
- Please send us a claim form together with the receipts.
- You are responsible for paying the registration fee and the costs of the final swimming test.
- There is no guarantee that you will receive a diploma.
You will be reimbursed for (part of) the costs afterwards.
Please note! The reimbursement for swimming lessons is a maximum amount; you can see the amount of the reimbursement below. The cost of swimming lessons may be higher than the reimbursement you receive; you will need to pay any excess costs yourself.

For children aged between 4.5 and 12 years
Net income up to 110% of the social assistance threshold: €985.80
Net income from 110% of the social assistance standard: €739.35
For children aged between 12 and 18
Net income < 110% of the social assistance threshold: €766.75
Net income from 110% of the social assistance standard: €575.06
The swimming lessons may cost more than the reimbursement you receive. In that case, you will have to pay the difference yourself.
