You can report an incorrect registration if:
- someone is registered at an address, even though they no longer live there.
- someone has a correspondence address with you and you can no longer get in touch with that person.
- you receive a letter from a government organisation on behalf of the former residents.
There are two ways to report an incident:

Take to appointment:
- A valid identity document
- Details of any new address or contact details for the person concerned
Requesting an address search is free of charge.
The time taken to carry out an address enquiry varies from case to case. We aim to complete an address enquiry within 3 months.
Have you received a message stating that the local authority is investigating your address details?
Please let us know your new address as soon as possible.
- Have you moved house within the Netherlands? Notify us of your move within the Netherlands.
- Have you moved abroad? Notify us of your move abroad.
Do you still live at the same address? If so, please contact the local council Apeldoorn via 14055.
Are your address details currently under investigation? If so, this may have consequences for you. In some cases, a person may ultimately be removed from the BRP.
Here’s what this means for you:
DigiD
Your existing DigiD will continue to work as normal. If you do not yet have a DigiD, you will not be able to apply for one whilst your address is under review. No activation codes will be sent whilst the address review is ongoing.
Passport and driving licence
If you are registered as living abroad, you can apply for a passport at one of the Dutch border municipalities or at an embassy or consulate abroad.
In some cases, you can apply for a driving licence directly from the RDW whilst you are abroad. Find out more at the RDW website.
If you are staying in the Netherlands but do not have a permanent place of residence or domicile, you can submit a special application to the local council. Find out more at the RDW website.
Health insurance
If your address is under investigation, this will not affect your current insurance cover.
Only once you have actually deregistered and moved abroad can an insurer decide to terminate the policy, as they no longer have an official residential address in the Netherlands on record. You should therefore always contact your own health insurer.
