Due to the huge success of the ‘Boompje Erbij’ campaign, we are using a registration system this year. The registration form contains a number of questions. Based on your answers, we will select trees that are suitable for your garden, from which you can then choose one tree. We ask for a contribution of €5 to cover administrative costs.
This year, we are operating two collection points, spread over two weeks in late November. During the registration process, you will choose which day – and the associated collection point – you would like to collect your tree on. You can only collect a tree if you have registered.
The trees come in various sizes. You can select your preferred tree on the application form. The fruit trees can also be transported by bike.
This year, we are giving away the following tree varieties:
- Hand apple
- Plum tree
- Hand-held pear
- Stewed pear
- Veldesdoorn
- Sweet chestnut
- Yellow dogwood
- Hawthorn
- Walnut
- Ornamental apple
- Cherry plum
- Common bird cherry
- Flour cake
- Common rowan
- Small-leaved lime
- • This offer is available whilst stocks last. We are giving away a maximum number of each tree species. Once that number has been reached, you will no longer be able to select that tree species on the registration form.
- One sapling per address. If you do order more than one sapling for the same address, you will only receive one sapling. The cost of the other saplings ordered will not be refunded by the municipality of Apeldoorn.
- • You must register in advance using the button above.
Please note: this year, you will be required to pay a service charge of €5 in advance. This ensures that we know how many trees will be collected and that the trees registered are actually collected. - • The registration form tells you where and when you can collect your tree.
When you come to collect your tree, please have the code you received by email to hand. This will help our staff find your tree easily.
Would you like some more inspiration for a green garden? On the Veluwse Tuin website you will find practical tips.
Trees bring nature to life in the city. They make our city greener, provide shade and help retain rainwater for longer. They provide a home for small animals and insects. No wonder, then, that we cherish our trees in Apeldoorn. How wonderful would it be if a tree could grow up alongside your newborn child?
When are you eligible for a birth tree?
If you have registered your child with the municipality of Apeldoorn and live in the municipality of Apeldoorn, you will receive a voucher for the ‘birth tree’ along with the letter containing your child’s BSN number.
How does the voucher work?
You can redeem the voucher during the annual ‘Boompje erbij’ promotion. On this page, you will also find the link to the registration page.
My child was born in 2026, but I haven’t received a voucher for a birth tree. What should I do?
It may be that the scheme for birth trees had not yet been introduced when you received the letter regarding your child’s BSN. You will therefore receive a separate letter at a later date containing the voucher for the birth tree. You do not need to do anything.
How should I look after my tree?
When you choose your tree, you’ll receive a flyer along with instructions on how to look after the tree, to give it the best chance of thriving.
I can’t make it during the collection times – can someone else collect a tree for me?
If you are unable to collect a tree yourself, someone else may collect it on your behalf. That person must, however, have your registration code and email address to hand as proof.
Are the trees organic?
No, the trees are not organically grown. The Municipality of Apeldoorn has long-standing agreements with its tree suppliers. Our current suppliers are in the process of transitioning to organic tree cultivation. As this transition is still ongoing, and the Municipality of Apeldoorn purchases a large quantity of trees, they are not yet organic.
What is my data used for?
We would ask you to provide your details as part of the registration process, and so that we can assess the impact of the campaign. By collecting postcodes and house numbers, we can see whether the trees are actually being planted where they are needed most.
The legal basis for the processing of GDPR data is consent. By entering your email address, name, postcode and house number, you are giving your consent to the processing of this data.
I’m currently living in a rented property. Can I plant a tree in my garden?
As with any alterations to your home or garden, you must discuss this with your landlord first.
Why do I suddenly have to register now and pay €5, when I didn’t have to in previous years?
The campaign has become hugely popular amongst the residents of Apeldoorn over the past two years. We’re delighted about that. At the same time, we’ve received lots of enquiries and feedback from residents who kept missing out. We want to give everyone the chance to come and collect a tree. That’s why we’re operating a pre-registration system this year.
The €5 we charge is a service charge; we also want to ensure that residents who reserve a tree actually come to collect it. Even with the €5 charge, the tree is still cheaper than those available elsewhere.
I’ve collected my tree and been given three leaflets. What’s that all about?
You’ll be given planting instructions so that you know how best to look after your tree. You’ll also receive a leaflet from the Veluwse Tuin; you can find more tips on this website about looking after your garden and preparing it for winter.
You will also receive a leaflet from the Garden Rangers. The Garden Rangers provide free gardening advice on behalf of Apeldoorn City Council. This involves small steps you can take, with the help of their advice, to make your garden more climate-resilient and nature-friendly.
