Benefits and allowances

If you are in work, there are parental benefits available in the Netherlands. These are the same benefits to which Dutch nationals with children are entitled. You will receive these from the Dutch government.

Child benefit

For anyone with children, as a contribution towards the cost of a child’s upkeep

An additional allowance for people, depending on their income

Childcare allowance

If you start working, you are also entitled to a childcare allowance to cover part of

If you are married or have a partner (the tax authorities refer to this as a ‘benefit partner’), you must state this on your application

Living expenses

If you are in work, you will no longer receive child benefit from the municipality of Apeldoorn with effect from 1 November 2022.
As you are in work, you are entitled to government allowances and benefits. So please do not forget to apply for them.

DigiD app

The DigiD app is the easiest way to log in securely. You no longer need to remember a complicated password.
Just a PIN that you choose yourself. Download the DigiD app from Google Play or the Apple App Store. The app must first
be activated.

  1. Open the app and tap ‘Activate’.
  2. The DigiD app will ask whether you are already using the app on another device. Select ‘No’.
  3. Enter your DigiD username and password, then tap ‘Next’.
  4. Choose a PIN and enter it. Repeat the PIN. You will use this to log in from now on.
  5. The app will ask if you want to activate it using an ‘ID check’. Do you have an iPhone? If so, tap ‘Start scanning’. On an Android device, scanning starts straight away.
  6. Wait 10 seconds. The app will then give you the option to skip the scan. Tap ‘Skip scan’.
  7. You will receive a text message containing a 6-digit code. Enter this code in the DigiD app.
  8. You will now see two orange sliders. Leave them switched on.
  9. Please enter your email address if you haven’t done so already. Then enter the verification code that has been sent to your email address
    has been sent.

Your DigiD app is now activated. You can start using it straight away.
