Building Inspector

Inspecting the structural condition of buildings, carrying out technical assessments of planning permission applications and monitoring compliance with these permissions. That’s exactly what you’ll be passionate about as a building inspector for Apeldoorn Council.

“Independent, proactive and results-oriented”

The Security Department
On 1 June 2025, a new department was launched within the Apeldoorn municipal organisation: the Safety Department. Within this department, safety advisers, special investigating officers, supervisors, structural engineers and enforcement lawyers, amongst others, work together every day to ensure the safety of Apeldoorn. In short, this department brings together a number of disciplines that are dedicated to both the social and physical safety of Apeldoorn. Colleagues within these disciplines complement one another.

It is a department currently under development. Over the next two years, the aim is to turn it into a fully-fledged department with a solid organisational structure that brings policy and implementation closer together.

Here’s what you’ll be doing
Engineering is a key part of the construction industry. There are many important and technical decisions to be made when it comes to the safety of our residents. Fortunately, you’re already a specialist in this field, so you can switch effortlessly from one technical project to the next. And that’s just as well, because variety is the order of the day. You never know what lies ahead, as in this role you’ll be working both indoors and outdoors.

In practical terms, this means that you:

  • monitors various environmental permits that have been granted;
  • assesses applications for planning permission in terms of technical aspects;
  • takes responsibility for everything relating to environmental safety;
  • involves a lot of liaison with your team, our residents and various businesses.

So there’s plenty of challenge in store for you and your team! You’ll be working in a team of around 35 colleagues within the Safety department. What characterises your new department and team? It’s, of course, the way they work together and the friendly atmosphere. At Apeldoorn City Council, you’ll be working not only on our local area, but also on your own personal development. With plenty of opportunities for growth, we’re an ambitious organisation. We’re a team where everyone is there for one another 24/7. You won’t often find a closed door here – but you will find reliable and innovative colleagues!

    • Extra income by having it paid out.
    • Buying extra holiday hours.
  • A focus on the opportunities we offer as an employer in the areas of learning and development, both in terms of professional skills and career progression;

Things to bring with you
You enjoy working with others – you do it well and often. It doesn’t matter to you whether you’re working with your team, a local resident, our council or a contact at a large company.
