Emergency shelter temporarily closes following discovery of asbestos

The reason is that materials containing asbestos have been found in the building. As a precaution, all residents will be moved to another COA site tomorrow, Friday 3 July. We are taking this precaution to be on the safe side.
The COA is currently having an investigation carried out to determine exactly where the asbestos is located and what the implications are for further construction work and safety.
As far as we are aware at present, the ISK section is separate from the emergency department, and this wing was built during the period when asbestos was banned.
Pending the results of the full investigation, the emergency shelter will remain closed. The investigation is expected to be completed next week. The COA and the local authority will then jointly assess what the findings mean for the next steps and for all those involved.
