Increase your chances of being connected to the electricity grid by submitting a notification to the local council.
Building a home requires more than just a planning permission. Capacity on the electricity grid is also essential. However, new electricity connections are in short supply because the electricity grid is too small. Every new-build home and every new-build project must therefore apply for an electricity connection in good time. These applications are placed on a waiting list by the grid operator Liander. The order in the queue is determined by the ACM’s new prioritisation rules. Under these rules, local authorities are permitted to register housing projects with the grid operator Liander earlier. This gives them a better chance of securing an electricity connection sooner.
From 1 October 2026, Apeldoorn City Council will be able to submit applications for grid connections to Liander on behalf of housebuilders, property developers and housing associations at an earlier stage. The council will collect and assess the projects, whilst Liander will determine who is allocated capacity.
